Kimberly Croswell Collection

Administrative History

Trained as a sculptor, Kimberly Croswell, partner of Allan Antliff, has created banners, stencil art, and organized protest performances at numerous events in Victoria. Notably, she co-created a 27 foot long ‘ghost salmon’ puppet with Nancy the Blacksmith that was used to disrupt the Olympic Torch Relay in Victoria in 2009. The two also co-designed a larger salmon puppet [see photo] that was marched through the streets at anti-Olympic demonstrations in Vancouver in 2010.  The puppet was later mobilized for Wild Salmon demonstrations organized by environmentalists, anarchists and Indigenous activists in Victoria and other locations. Croswell kept the puppet in her studio until gifting it to the Heiltsuk nation. She also designed a human sized protest puppet, “Bitty the Bedbug,’ which appeared at numerous “No 2010 Olympics on Stolen Native Land” protests in Victoria as the event’s anti-Olympics ‘mascot’ figure. This collection is on-going.
